Shared web hosting: Different options

Web hosting is the main service that allow users and clients to have different websites and online platforms, providing these with hardware and software to host content and other resources such websites use to function properly, through computing units known as server with great capacity and performance. Due to its complexity, web hosting has different types from which one of the most popular is the shared web hosting, for its characteristics and other subtypes.

Since, web hosting as a general service and instrument is usually related with high costs and expensive plans, but these are frequently connected to dedicated web hosting as the service that provide proper and unique servers for one client, hosting their websites that take advantage of all the hardware resources at a great price. Well, not all businesses have that possibility and this is where shared web hosting and its subtypes come to the table.

Traditional or classic shared web hosting

To begin with, traditional or classic shared web hosting is the first of its kind in dividing or separating hardware resources from a server into several accounts and websites, which all function at the same time and take use in CPU core clock, RAM memory and disk space to answer the requests arriving to the server.

In traditional shared web hosting resources division is implied and it is not equal, but sometimes scalable or sometimes set depending on the many websites hosted. In this way, the use of resources and possible overuse and consequences affect all accounts involved in the servers, in terms of unstable behavior due to requests that surpass the capacity of the server. Because of this characteristics, classic shared web hosting is cheap and websites hosted divide costs.

Virtual shared web hosting

On the other hand, virtual shared web hosting is the type of service quite similar to the classic shared solution but with one key difference: the use of virtualization platforms and other technologies to divide resources properly, in a more organized way and totally equal.

For example, with virtual shared web hosting might be one hundred virtual machines on a server with an account and a website, along with CMS and other management resources, each one of them being independent and with previously established hardware resources that are not shared at that point.

So, in case of unstable situation or any other event affecting an account, such incidental does not affect the others, since virtualization makes possible for accounts to be almost like in dedicated servers or at least bring some of the related benefits.
